Fuglefolk
Songleikr - 2026
Fuglefolk was recorded, mixed and produced in Øra Studio by Mona Hynne and co-produced by Fieke van den Hurk, Ingrid Galadriel Aune Falch, Kasia Sikora-Black and Maria Franz.
The album was mastered by Maria Triana.
What a pleasure to collaborate with so many amazing artists!! My role during the production only started in the later phase of the mixing process, where I consulted Mona Hynne while she finished the mixing. I also consulted on the mastering done by Maria Triana. I was responsible for the graphic layout of the design for Fuglefolk. The cover artwork was made by Moriild/Mia Maria My Gravgaard (original birds and vines), Kai Uwe Faust (background and digital editing), Maria Franz (layout, handwriting and digital editing), and Kasia Sikora-Black (artistic input).
In their own words, Songleikr is a project rooted in a deep love for Nordic folk music. Weaving together traditional stories with new musical creations, the group celebrates live music, people and connection. In translation, Songleikr means “song game”. From the very first time I got to listen to their recordings, they enchanted me with their beautifully written songs that carry similar magic to the beloved traditionals… you can sense the unfiltered playful passion for the folk music genre.
The songs were recorded live in the studio—with the full ensemble playing together to capture that raw, communal “folk-in-the-room” energy, and have let spontaneity and connection guide the music. In my role as consultant, I chose to support the band to take this perspective on their music home, and encouraged them to make bold choices in terms of keeping the sound and dynamics of the recordings alive.
The lineup of the album consists of Maria Franz—the Norwegian vocalist also known from the internationally acclaimed group Heilung, Ingrid Galadriel Aune Falch, Norwegian singer and songwriter, Kasia Sikora-Black, a UK-based musician with a rich musical education and an ear for shimmering melodic textures, and Petter-Olai Østbye Sagen (NO), who anchors the group’s sound with the deep rhythmic pulse that defines Songleikr’s unmistakable musical landscape.
Unique for this production, Fuglefolk also features special guest appearances by Magnus Børmark (Gåte) on mandola and guitar, Myrkur (DK) on viola and keyharpe, Jo Ranheim (NO) on mandola and guitar, and Mona Hynne (NO) on guitar.
